The Centennial State approves same-sex civil unions. While I’m no fan of separate but equal, this is a good first step in achieving marriage equality, in both Colorado and the nation.

YALSA (the Young Adult Library Services Association) selected the audio version of ‘Almost Perfect’ as one of their Amazing Audiobooks for Young Adults, 2013. I’d like to take credit, but it’s really all down to Kirby Heyborne, the narrator. He really made my characters come alive.

‘Almost Perfect’…Transphobic?

Posted on Thursday, 17th January, 2013

More than once, readers have posted the opinion that ‘Almost Perfect’ is actually a very negative portrayal of the transgender experience. They often cite the many trials that Sage endures and the less-than-happy ending. I’ve been told that this book would be harmful to transyouth, with the bleak depiction of what Sage has to go through.

Here is a recent, very interesting article on the subject.

I’m obviously too close to the issue to have an unbiased opinion.  What do people out there in Internet land think?

Read my review of Michael Hassan’s Crash and Burn over at Forever Young Adult. It’s an excellent book about a school rampage, so be warned.
