In the meantime, a twelfth US state has approved marriage equality.

The first state becomes the 11th state to legalize same-sex marriage. The momentum will not be stopped.

So who’s next? Illinois? Delaware? The UK?
So now New Zealand (the first country, by the way, to allow women to vote) has now voted for marriage equality. Last week, France and Uruguay did the same thing. Earlier this year, Colorado approved civil unions, and a handful of Brazilian states voted to allow same sex marriage. Similar laws are on the fast track in the UK, Rhode Island, Delaware, and Nevada, among others.
So where next? What progressive state will be next to stop marriage discrimination? Germany, you’re the most powerful European economy, why not be equally innovative with public policy? Or how about Finland, the last hold out in northern Europe. Brazil? Japan? Mexico?
Damn, these are interesting times.

Both Uruguay and France are on their way to becoming the 12th and 13th nations to legalize marriage equality. Yahoo commenters were quick to weigh in:

Today and tomorrow the US Supreme Court will begin hearing arguments about the constitutionality of DOMA and Prop 8. Will this be the civil rights decision of our age, or will it be the new Dred Scott decision?

The Centennial State approves same-sex civil unions. While I’m no fan of separate but equal, this is a good first step in achieving marriage equality, in both Colorado and the nation.
